The Rural Alberta Advantage: Stamp
Heartfelt and sparse, the Rural Alberta Advantage draw you closer with each new track. They come across almost naked in their earnestness, but there’s something almost majestic in the way the songs are built: inventive drumming, quirky instrumentation and wistful singing from the trio combining powerfully over each album. Listen to Stamp [above] to hear them at their most forceful.

After researching and planning for a couple of years, my partner Claire and I bought a 1960 Heidelberg Windmill, had it reconditioned and started to learn the trade from our home studio in Thirroul, learning from eccentric retired printers with each step. Our first project was a wedding invitation set: a very fun (and at times frustrating) combination of patience and payoff. Read more
So simple. So cool. Artists are commissioned to provide two-colour illustrations that are printed on a Vandercook press, sent out as letter-pressed greeting cards, then can be flipped and folded to produce a matted artwork print ready for framing. Making a great idea pure brilliance are the tasty illustrations in the first half a dozen.

Unfortunately, I do not live in the state of Washington. But I don’t have to in order to enjoy this great idea from local distillers Woodinville Whiskey: a complete kit that will age their small batch whiskey in your own private barrel and ships worldwide. Hands up if you knew un-aged whiskey was clear?

Marcos Chin and I share a studio and we are loving the Cubits and Cubitec shelving system from Design Within Reach, which we first saw at Mirko Ilic’s studio and then had to buy them ourselves. It’s smart, light and can be custom built to the shape you like. The vivid colours make our workspace a lot of fun!
I always loved the powerful drawings of Benjamin Guedel, but didn’t enjoy browsing his website. Now he has a new easy to navigate site, so I can share his work with those unlucky ones who haven’t seen his drawing skills yet. Read more

This odd, atmospheric animation by web artists Aaron Russ Clinger and Miltos Manetas is simple but effective, a finely rendered piece of interactive art. There are some pretty crazy things you can make the floating man do if you play around with this long enough.
I’m sitting here listening to this Switch Remix of the Jacknife Lee track Making Me Money with a mind that’s buzzing from an extra strong cup of Colombian coffee and a foot that’s tapping so fast the damn thing may well drop off. Oh boy, just try getting this cracking beat out of your head.

Artist Stephanie Simek has created a sweet (literally) line of jewelry: wearable confections made from crystallized sugar, preserved in plastic, and suspended on precious metal. These one-of-a-kind gems are look good enough to eat, but much better to wear. The sugar jewels, plus other great Simek pieces, are available in the Lost At E Minor store.
