|I came across Gabriel Neale’s paintings on the Internet whilst researching references for new paintings. I instantly loved the dark and strange figures in his paintings and the way he uses colour. His paintings feel like a mix between the loneliness of an Edward Hopper painting, with the darkness of Francis Bacon and Jenny Saville.

Keston Cobbler’s Club: For, Words
I was introduced to Keston Cobbler’s Club by a mutual friend who showed me their latest video for their song, For, Words. I instantly fell in love with the adorable song and equally adorable video. I think it’s a great example of how a music video can perfectly complement a song. The band wrote, directed and filmed the film themselves and the result is a perfectly endearing short film.
Elliot: a short film by Stuart Gillies and Joe Simpson
This is a short film that I wrote and directed with my friend Stuart Gillies. The film was inspired by a play by Daniel Kitson, where two characters reflect on the time in their lives has been divided up. We shot and edited the entire film with just the two of us and then asked the amazing Canadian poet Shane Koyczan to record a voiceover.

The Beauty Of A Second is a short film competition where people are invited to submit their most beautiful one second video. This clip shows 60 of the best entries edited together. I think there’s something really simple and lovely about having such a short moment captured on film and shown out of context. It’s like a single line of a poem held up on it’s own.

Brooklyn based illustrator Autumn Whitehurst is a Lost At E Minor favourite. She recently told the Web Esteem website about her interest in capturing human figures: ‘I have to use a photo reference to comprehend how light falls on a three dimensional form but the figures in the illustration rarely look anything like the photographs because myself and my friends are not such lean sleek glowing forms. It’s one of the biggest challenges but is also really enjoyable and is probably the bit that I have to get most creative with. I plan to completely abandon photo references for the work in which there is no rendering at all, and it’ll probably result in something a bit wild’.

At a gig last year Foals were forced to abandon their last song halfway through because the stage was stormed by too many crazed fans. The reason behind the hype they’re creating, both on stage and in the normally merciless media, isn’t immediately clear upon first listen: the sound is less than friendly on the ears, and they don’t employ the same catchy hooks and melodic chorus patterns that shoot your average band to fame in their early years.
