Pocket watches by Swiss timekeeper Tissot
Refinement that’s truly timeless (no pun intended). Add elegance to denim or a hint of classic flair to blazers and sweaters this winter with pocket watches. Swiss timekeeper Tissot proves that a love of a yesterday and passion for today are made for each other. The Pocket Men’s Brass Silver Mechanical Pocket Watches have Swiss Quartz movement, stainless steel PVD coating, and mineral crystal features.

You don’t need to be Bruce Lee to rock the Year of the Dragon Swatch watch. Decked in Chinese-style blue and white porcelain with a nifty dragon print, it’s the perfect wrist candy to synchronize to in 2012, the year of the dragon.

Watch tells the time according to the colour of the sky
I probably own enough watches already, but if I didn’t, I’d have to get a hold of this devastatingly cool watch by Japanese designer Ryohei Yoshiyuki which literally displays different colours of the sky every few seconds to reveal a close approximation of the time. By doing so, it transports us back to a time, metaphorically speaking at least, when people referred to the heavens to determine how far along in the day they had come. Genius. Read more

On a recent trip to New York I became the proud owner of a kid robot swatch watch designed by Frank Kozik. There are eight artists in this kid robot collection: Tara Mcpherson, Gary Baseman, Joe Ledbetter, Jeremyville, SSUR Ruslan Karablin, Tilt, MAD, and Frank Kozik. With each watch you get your own little dunny, also designed by the artist. With the Frank Kozik watch, you pay a little extra and you get a big dunny with your watch.

Bet you didn’t know you could afford a private island
While you’re working 9-5, someone out there is relaxing on their very own private island. That someone could be Richard Branson on his Necker Island, but it could also be that guy whose cubicle next to yours has been empty for a week now. While Branson’s island is $5,000 per night, just 2,000 km west of it is Fort Morgan Cay, a small island in the Caribbean that even the mid-income earner can afford. With a personal chef and renovated rooms it makes for a pretty good alternative to Cancun doesn’t it? Read more

These are a few pieces from an ongoing group of abstract drawings created from an aerial vantage point that vacillates between macro and micro in terms of scale and distance. Inspiration and references come from satellite photography, microscopic imagery, radial irrigation systems used in large scale commercialized agriculture, as well as symbols and marks found throughout major cities. Convalescent: the new single from Useless Beauty
Convalescent is the first official video from Useless Beauty’s debut full-length album, Sisters. Follow the footsteps of a quirky girl who is willingly trapped inside her own world, but also yearning to experience the outside. The question is: will that really make her happy? (Fun fact: all footage was filmed inside the lead-singer’s childhood home in Scranton, PA).

For her piece, Connected, conceptual artist Kasey McMahon has created a ‘life-size self portrait made of steel, CAT5 and other data cables’. Of her work, she says: ‘I’ve been exploring how interconnected we’re becoming as technology is more entwined in our lives — both the positive and negative effects’.
The people on Unhappy Hipsters sure do look lonely in their beautifully designed habitats, but I’m even more confused by what people mean when they use the term ‘hipster’ — do hipsters wear sandals and khaki shorts? I’m not sure hipsters can even afford Dwell-worthy homes, let alone maintain their minimalist decor. Read more
This interview with James Lavelle gives a fascinating window into the making of the latest UNKLE opus, End Titles, Stories for Film.
As a child, I took piano exams in over-sized white rooms, on baby grand pianos that felt unfamiliar and echoed strangely as someone across the room observed me in silence. It felt clinical, intimidating and completely devoid of warmth. Last week, I started noticing upright pianos, some painted haphazardly, others respectfully untouched plonked in the most unlikely places throughout Sydney. There was one on the edge of the baby pool at the local swimming pool, with a young girl in a rainbow striped dress tapping out a happy but disjointed melody; another shaded under a tree at the park on the way home. I’ve seen a lot of strange things on the Internet, but this Tumblr just baffles me. It’s called Animals with Casts, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Picture after picture of different animals wearing casts. Read more
The Kevin Ayers record Joy of a Toy from 1969 was released by Harvest Records and sits somewhere between Nick Drake and The Byrds. A record slightly ahead of its time, it was filled with enough interesting and clever arrangements and instrumentation to never bore. Girl on a Swing is my favorite tune for the tremolo guitar.

The project is a year-long release of shoes designed by notable artists, including Auckland-based illustrator, Dennis Juan Ma, whose shoe [above] is number twenty in the series.
