Chicago band Mutts with their song Pray for Rain
by Chicago’s Mutts have just released their first full-length, Pray for Rain. The album’s call to arms is band leader Mike Maimone’s Tom Waits-style growl, which is accompanied by fuzzed-out organ, greasy guitar hooks and brutal drumming.

Chicago band Bailiff: Little By Little live at Pritzker Pavilion
In early 2011, I met fellow Chicagoans Bailiff through our mutual friend and engineer, Jon Alvin. We share a love for the blues and rock & roll, but cook them with different recipes. I feel blessed to guest with them on occasion, and learn something every time we hang out. I was moved during this song at the majestic Pritzker Pavilion, looking out at the Chicago skyline on a beautiful summer afternoon.

She also makes little recordings that serve the same function, little spontaneous songs/poems/sound collages about commemoration and memory. Read more
Winnipeg Illustrator Kenneth Lavalee makes some lovely work. His delicate linework, muted colors and twisted tongue in cheek, drama-esque themes (all blood, obesity and creepy little lump people) are certainly worth a good look.

It’s all about looking into a black mirror and seeing the creative energy burst back out at you. We think it’s very cool and the first in what we hope will be a series of short videos exploring what it really means to be lost at e minor. Hit us up if you’d like to have a go at creating one.
Look closely at the walls of the Diga del Cingino dam in Italy, at the small brown dots that line the grainy surface. They are European Ibex and they live in these remarkable gravity defying surrounds, eating the moss and lichen and licking the salt off the dam wall. Read more
