Rare and spooky British Witch documentary from 1971
The odd documentary, Power of the Witch, was allegedly only screened once in the UK, and examines contemporary occult practitioners. With a considerably trippy, Swinging Sixties slant, it delves into the historical backgrounds of Wicca, Satanism, exorcisms, and black magic.

Float: a movie about free flight duration aeronautics
At one time, this documentary was getting a lot of buzz. It’s both a fascinating milieu and flawlessly executed. I have an obsession with obscure hobbies that create huge subcultures where the fans would give anything to be Jim Richman for a day, a person who most of us would never hear of if it weren’t for beautiful little films like this My favorite line in the whole movie is: ‘Lance Armstrong is the Jim Richman of the bicycle world’. It sums up the whole film for me.
All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace
Adam Curtis is a documentary film maker. His 2011 three part BBC documentary series, All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace, claims that computers have failed to liberate us and instead have ‘distorted and simplified our view of the world around us’. The film features the Russian-born author Ayn Rand, who relocated to New York in the 1920s. Her ideas and philosophy were popular and came to infiltrate California, particularly Silicon Valley.

My new favorite Friday morning ritual is watching always-glam Bitchbuzz editor-in-chief Cate Sevilla break down the best of the week’s pop culture highlights in a feisty, female-centric slant. Along with news and commentary, the weekly online show also features interviews with new female talent like DJ duo Broken Hearts and comedian Vicki Stone. Read more

Adrian Tomine is one of the finest cartoonists and illustrators of this generation, alongside the iconic Chris Ware and Daniel Clowes. He began his career Xeroxing copies of his comics for distribution, and stubbornly chooses to work in a medium as deliberately obscure as independent comics. While he continues to develop his ongoing series Optic Nerve (currently entering its fifteenth year of publication), he’s also the illustrator of choice for the New Yorker.
Oh, this is fun: ‘Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are over 90 active machines in various locations throughout America’ selling works from 400 contributing artists from 10 different countries. Having originally sprung from the Shaky Isles (otherwise known as New Zealand), I can appreciate the humour in the New Zealand cartoon series, Bro Town, the first homegrown animated series to screen during local prime time. It’s simply brilliant, a real play on the ‘thuck’ accent and small town ways of our Kiwi brethren.

Silver Summit make the sort of hazy psych-folk that would suit a long, night-time drive through the badlands. Incorporating an array of acoustic instruments, strings, slide guitar, and haunting female vocals into gossamer melodies, the collective sound like they hail from a dusty town on the Great Plains rather than their native Brooklyn.
