Awesome animated video for the band CHLLNGR
I just ran across this really cool music video from a band called CHLLNGR. The song is called Change and the video is co-directed by Chad Turner and Michael Todd. It’s an animated production that takes place somewhere within the solar system. There’s a guy in a spacecraft kind of hanging around and he’s suddenly attacked by a lady in a ship of her own. It’s very well done. I don’t much at all about CHLLNGR; the song sounds reggae inspired. I’ll have to hear some more of their work to know if this is a recurring theme or not.

Fast Forward: new single from female rapper UZOY
Female rap is often written off as some type of novelty thing in hip hop these days. Many of the women partaking either have some type of gimmick to them or just don’t really have the charisma to capture people’s attention for very long. Well, UZOY (pronounced Uzi, like the gun) might have something to say about that. A native of Houston, UZOY’s been building up a name for herself within the rap world for a while now and has opened up for a few big name rappers (Big Sean, Trae Tha Truth, Lupe Fiasco, Bun B). The word ‘original’ is frequently tossed around and incorrectly applied to stale, done-to-death creations, which are anything but. Thankfully, artists like Mexican-born Hugo Lugo can paint a truly innovative concept, and give the word meaning again. I’m gobsmacked by the simplicity and brilliance of his strangely surreal artwork. Read more
The people on Unhappy Hipsters sure do look lonely in their beautifully designed habitats, but I’m even more confused by what people mean when they use the term ‘hipster’ — do hipsters wear sandals and khaki shorts? I’m not sure hipsters can even afford Dwell-worthy homes, let alone maintain their minimalist decor. Read more
Rarely is a film politically poignant as well as wonderfully written, acted and shot. The second feature from director Kimberly Peirce of Boys Don’t Cry was inspired by her brother, who joined the army, and was only possible after months of meticulous research. Read more
The Danes are renowned for their considered and subtle design. However, in these times of change, they must feel they need something with this selection of a bridge building as the winner of a recent architectural competition in Denmark. The American architect Steven Holl designed this building with a pedestrian bridge that links two sides of the harbour in the distinctly low-rise Copenhagen. Read more
I really don’t understand cat haters. Most of them claim that our feline companions are aloof and distant, graceful and mysterious to a fault. In my opinion, cats are just as goofy as dogs, which is why any documentation of them acting like spazzes makes me chuckle uncontrollably. Read more
There are two kinds of metalheads: those that are drawn by the hyper masculine, angry, aggressive aspect of metal, and those that are drawn by its Wagnerian drama, themes of pagan nature worship, and disdain towards modern civilization. The line between the latter and hippies is quite thin. I am one of these sorts of metal fans, which is why I also really love bands like The Lickets, an empyrean, luminously beautiful, experimental folk collective. They make music that makes you feel like a tiny speck floating in the vast oceans of existence, perfect for a night of star gazing, just like Burzum’s fourth album, Filosifem.
Is it just me, or is fake beards on girls becoming a more pronounced part of our zeitgeist? Anyway, Erin Dollar has made some pretty sweet ones that she’ll sell to you via Etsy.
