Quirky video for the new Pier Planas song

We made this video for Toulousain musician, Pier Planas. His song, Elle Depense (‘She Spends’) is about our consumerist ways, using ‘the Cougar’ as an example. For the video, we wanted to take the message of the song to an extreme. That is, have our (very young) Cougars compete against each other for all the items in a boutique, until all that was left was Pier. Not surprisingly, it led to an all out no-holds-barred cat fight (or should that be a Cougar fight?)

Video for Mister Dressmaking and the Patchwork Mind

We make videos. This one we put together for the song Tais Toi off Monsieur Grandin’s debut album, Mister Dressmaking and the Patchwork Mind: a trip-hop album being compared to the likes of Wax Tailor and Massive Attack. The concept of the album is that each song is a ‘patch’ — a different personality — within the patchwork that is Mister Dressmaking’s mind. Tais Toi is that angry patch, the one we all try to keep under control, but which in this case got set loose.

Want to see Sarkozy’s greatest triumph? Watch on in awe

France privatizes an historically socialist service — phones — and look what happens. KITAYNS EVRAYWHAR! It doesn’t matter if you speak French or not, this commercial proves that before long, capitalism and socialism will both be dead and the furballs will rule over all.

Bet you didn’t know you could afford a private island

While you’re working 9-5, someone out there is relaxing on their very own private island. That someone could be Richard Branson on his Necker Island, but it could also be that guy whose cubicle next to yours has been empty for a week now. While Branson’s island is $5,000 per night, just 2,000 km west of it is Fort Morgan Cay, a small island in the Caribbean that even the mid-income earner can afford. With a personal chef and renovated rooms it makes for a pretty good alternative to Cancun doesn’t it? Read more

New drawings by Derek Lerner

These are a few pieces from an ongoing group of abstract drawings created from an aerial vantage point that vacillates between macro and micro in terms of scale and distance. Inspiration and references come from satellite photography, microscopic imagery, radial irrigation systems used in large scale commercialized agriculture, as well as symbols and marks found throughout major cities. Convalescent: the new single from Useless Beauty

Convalescent is the first official video from Useless Beauty’s debut full-length album, Sisters. Follow the footsteps of a quirky girl who is willingly trapped inside her own world, but also yearning to experience the outside. The question is: will that really make her happy? (Fun fact: all footage was filmed inside the lead-singer’s childhood home in Scranton, PA).

My wife and I have a little black puppy, a furry bundle of mischief called Selma Lou. Perhaps one day we’ll have her immortalized in an artwork by Anders Malmø. The Norwegian artist has a thing for mutts. And it’s very fun thing indeed. Read more

I’ve spent a good deal of time in Nashville lately and had the opportunity to eat in some delicious restaurants there. Meat and threes, Thai, Greek, and more. But topping them all was Mas Tacos. They use deep fried avocados. And the best part is, they have a Winnebago serving it up all over the city.

I ran a series of 80s nights in New York last year — showing cult 80s movies and playing classic cuts from that era of kitsch and spice — purely so I could spin After The Fire’s Der Kommissar over and over. Yessir, this was the future of music in 1983. Pity no one was listening.

When you first see The Gershwin Hotel, you might think it’s an art gallery or a public art installation. The white, bird-like shapes sticking out of its red facade is certainly unique, without being too loud. The rooms are rather small but the location and accessible price range makes it all worth it.

Our friends over at Sex In Art recently posted the work of Japanese artist Aya Kato. Says Justin, the founder of the site: ‘I have this folder on my desktop titled Cool Shiat. It’s where I save all the inspirational images I find on the net. I’ve just finished filling it up with Aya Kato’s amazing images. Argh wow. Wow, wow, wow. I won’t say anymore. Just check her work out for yourself’. Read more

These vegan designer bags from Matt & Nat are made out of anywhere between 15 and 55 recycled plastic bottles. It also uses no leather, which is a big plus given that according to the UN, raising cattle generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined.
