Aaron Smith’s portraits of vintage men
Artist Aaron Smith creates manly portraits of men that existed back in the old days. His bright colors give these vintage men a fresh look. I saw one of his recent shows in New York and the surface of his paintings are thick with textured paint. Wonderful work.

Lenert Engleberts is a Dutch multi-media artist who writes and directs short films that make one ponder things such as procrastination, beauty, art and life. They are presented in an oddly humorous and artistic way. Even the commercial and print work he does is quite satisfying. This film is titled How To Explain It To My Parents.

Having lived in New York for over two years now, transplanted from the sunny beachside landscape of Sydney, Australia, I appreciate the gritty realism, yet positiveness and vibrancy in the photographic series on Manhattan locals by British writer and photographer, Ian Woolverton. In addition to his talents with the lense, Woolverton also has two humanitarian awards: one for the Australian Red Cross Service Medal for his achievements in the Bali bomb response and the other, Australian Government’s Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal, for covering the tsunami in Aceh. Hotly tipped by a handful of soothsayers to take 2009 by storm, Trembling Bells are an altogether different and refreshing musical experience to much of what seems to excite people at the moment. On first listen, it’s fairly easy to ignore — one could casually shrug it off as some limp take on Scottish baroque folk. Yet, there is something more to it. Rarely do you hear that high-pitched, warbling voice in mainstream music. Likewise the marching band cacophony going on in the background is both daring and highly intriguing.
