El Marko by Mr Gnome
Ok. I will admit it; I have fallen for him (them). Mr. Gnome, will you marry me? I heard El Marko off of their Madness in Miniature. Apparently this is Mr. Gnome’s third album. Their guitar and drum heavy sound, coupled with hauntingly psychedelic lyrics, leaves you thirsting for more.

Alex ‘Warble’ Harrison was my neighbor here in lovely midtown Memphis for a few months. As we became friends, I grew to love his maximalist drawings and paintings. Warble, along with Steve Pereira and an interchangeable array of Memphis musicians, make up The Warble. Check out their latest album, Predator, TN.
Snowballs: a film by Harmony Korine
If you haven’t already seen Harmony Korine’s video Snowballs, presented by fashion label Proenza Schouler, you’re really missing out. Blending magic, song and sad stereotypes, this a beautiful and surreal version of truisms.
Tiny Furniture: a movie by Lena Dunham
Tiny Furniture is about a 22 year-old recent college grad returning to her artist mother’s TriBeCa loft with a virtually useless degree and a dying hamster. The main character, Aura, played by a brilliant Lena Dunham, is a far cry from most of the actresses we see on the screen these days. But she delivers this part perfectly. She is beautiful, sexy, smart and funny, but still overshadowed by the successes of her mother and sister.

How many times can we play the same song in different settings? Hmmm, I don’t know. But it is a hell of a song, from a hell of a band, as that uniquely English oddity, Jules Holland would no doubt concur.
Having lived in New York for over two years now, transplanted from the sunny beachside landscape of Sydney, Australia, I appreciate the gritty realism, yet positiveness and vibrancy in the photographic series on Manhattan locals by British writer and photographer, Ian Woolverton. In addition to his talents with the lense, Woolverton also has two humanitarian awards: one for the Australian Red Cross Service Medal for his achievements in the Bali bomb response and the other, Australian Government’s Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal, for covering the tsunami in Aceh. Last week when the 2008 ARIA nominations were released, I was so happy to see the recognition of Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Their album Primary Colours is pure, unadulterated Aussie rock, standing out from the numerous electro releases we’ve had this year. The band manages to capture that wonderful pub-vibe without any pretension or tragic nostalgia. Primary Colours speaks to people who still seek an existence that is all about wearing ripped jeans, loitering and punching people in the face … not in a violent way, but because your fist flailed in that direction while you were thrashing around front of stage.
My good friend Kit (her Etsy handle is Greenshock), who used to live in Baltimore and now lives in Rockland, Maine (she moved there to go to boat-building school), makes really amazing wooden rings which you should totally buy for your loved ones this coming holiday season.

That’s great that you’re covering mr. Gnome! But the song is actually called, “House of Circles”. El Marko is their record label.
