Beautiful dresses by Katie Louise Ford

I was on the hunt for the perfect red swing dress, when I first came across Katie Louise Ford’s work. Her gorgeous dresses are inspired by classic children’s books, and the sweetly nostalgic era of the forties and fifties. I also love her blog, filled with lots of gorgeous things that inspire her, some unusual dressmaking projects, and lovely photography.

Accidental Chinese Hipsters

Yes, you read that right. The blog’s byline is: ‘A loving gaze cast upon the grandmother wearing dayglow jeggings and a visor’. And the About section simply says: ‘I am not a racist’. Read more

Collaboration between Lillian Darmono and Mungo Horey

My entire professional life has been about creating designs that belong strictly in the digital realm. So after eight years, I decided to join my fellow designers and artists in creating physical products that I can touch, feel, and share with others in a much more immediate way. Read more

Brewcycle: coffee cart attached to a bike in Melbourne

The perfect summer beverage this year in Melbourne is Vietnamese style ice coffee (espresso plus condensed milk plus ice), brought to you by the good folks at Coffee Supreme. Served from a ‘brewcycle’ (coffee cart attached to a bike), this donation-only treat doesn’t have a fixed schedule and is weather dependent. Is there anything more Melbourne-esque?

New York-based Japanese illustrator Yuko Shimizu has been featured on Lost At E Minor several times over the past couple of years. I love the sense of drama her work conveys, the apparent colour clashes that somehow gel despite pre-existing rules about their compatibility. We checked in with her to see what she’s been up to of late: ‘I just came back from a week in Georgian Bay in Canada. No internet, no cell phone reception for a week. It was fantastic! Now I am getting ready for a group show at Visual Arts Gallery in New York that opens in September. I am creating two new 40” x 60” drawings. I’m also slowly refurbishing my website here and there’. Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.

Tallest Man on Earth, the rasping Swedish folk singer-songwriter and one of the unsung heroes of 2008, recently recorded the beautiful song A Field of Birds, a nice adjunct to his summer album release, Shallow Grave. His sound is so loose and unmanicured, and carries a poignancy reminiscent of the rusty, early Bob Dylan.

In the animal series, artist/designer Okayboss explores the trend of bands naming themselves after animals. These pieces, inspired by such artists as the Mountain Goats and The Dodos, put a colorful spin on the wildlife-turned-band phenomenon in indie-rock. Limited edition signed pieces are available in the Lost At E Minor store. Read more
