Video for New Zealand band Golden Axe’s song Free Time

Golden Axe were one of the first live bands I saw in Auckland, New Zealand where I live. They are a duo who play distorted ‘Nintendo’ style pop via old casio synthesizers, and homemade gadgets and effects pedals.

Live they play on a table covered in flashing lights and are often dressed in costumes, wigs, sunglasses with lead vocals amplified through a helmet with a microphone strapped inside of it. This could sound all a bit gimmicky, but as different trends in music come and go, Golden Axe have faithfully kept true to their vision for nearly 10 years now. Their albums are available from a label called Crystal Magic based in Christchurch.
