Childish Gambino: Bonfire
In my opinion the only person with more faith invested in their own testicles and/or ovaries than the rapper is the stand-up comedian. If rapping equals storyline woven through a series of witty yet incisive rhymed set-ups and punchlines, who better to do it than a professional stand-up/comedy writer.
I’ll be the first to admit it’s tricky to identify yourself within a genre like rap music without at least trying the sexist, ‘fuck you, I’m the best’, attire on for size. But I get the feeling Donald is smart enough to educate himself through his own densely focused meanderings and their inherent shortcomings.

I saw this guy at a random art/music night at Super Deluxe in Ropongi and it made me feel great about getting older as a performer. This guy does for Tezuka what Coppola did for Martin Sheen’s semen in Apocalypse Now. Turns out Ichiraku Yoshimitsu is a respected jazz, fusion, rock drummer, percussionist, avant garde noise, visual terrorist whose work I had already heard on a number of Boredoms offshoot project, Omoide Hatoba’s records, over a decade ago. This guy produces the most meticulously crafted modern homewares, deftly melding pop-art with 400 year old lacquer wood techniques — all set on careful display in his own hand-built boutique in a quiet backstreet straddling Harajuku and Aoyama. He tells me he covered the walls and ceiling himself with 1,500 pure white, prefabricated melamine, square-based pyramids and a lot of glue. I can’t wait to get home and do the same to everything!
Video for the Regurgitator single: No Show
Our latest video offering is No Show from our album, Superhappyfuntimesfriends. When I found out this old Japanese monster movie was in the public domain, I just had to fuck with it. Even though it’s trimmed down from 90 minutes to three, I don’t think the continuity of the film is that effected. The plot may in fact make more sense to certain people with this particular edit.

If you ever happen to find yourself riding across the mid-west on horseback with an iPod jangling about in your holster, be sure to let Calexico soundtrack the experience. They’re cleverly fusing a range of genres, mixing some good old country with US indie, a bit of jazz and even, in 2003’s Feast of Wire, some smatterings of electronica. Lead singer Joey Burns gives a healthy amount of cowboy twang and the soaring orchestral background and sweet country guitar licks add a real atmosphere to the music.
Listen to the Calexico song, Convict Pool.

I don’t know if it’s the name, the relaxed look, or the attitude that just don’t sit too well with authority, but something about New York based label Sophomore has got us reminiscing about the good old days. Their current collection has boys and girls getting back-to-basics. Think jersey sweats and loose tees, mixed with yoke necks, caplet sleeves and tapered waists. And you know what that means? The search for the perfect white tee and the ultimate summer singlet is over. If that’s not enough to get you inspired, pull out your denim, pop on some 1970s vintage Jodie Foster, and get ready to channel some Lower East Side cred.
