Oil paintings by Melodie Provenzano
Melodie Provenzano’s oil paintings are playful combinations of disparate elements, such as French toile and pop culture, with incredibly sensitive line work and almost photographic realism. To see the work online is one thing, but I have had the opportunity to glimpse Provenzano’s work up close and it is astonishing in its technique. There is a starkness to her composition that really sets off her subject matter.

Stunning hyper-real embroidered portraits by Cayce Zavaglia
I had the opportunity to see Cayce Zavaglia’s work up in person at the Lyons Weir Gallery in New York City several years ago and was completely smitten. The work, a fluid combination of hand embroidery and acrylic paints on canvas or linen, is truly stunning. The stitch work, the craft, is so detailed and practiced as to make the skin tones, hair and fabric move not unlike the work of a master expressionist. This is brilliant work marrying the mastery of embroidery with the expressiveness of painting. Read more

It turns out that the Internet was invented for cute animals as much as it was for porn. All these four-legged nobodies suddenly have our attention, and all they have to do is sneeze or fall asleep or act like they’re talking for us to fawn all over them. Heeding the growing chorus of people calling for these furry hacks to be cut back down to size, Fuck You Penguin aims to keep the egos of goats, puffins, moose, and pretty much every adorable creature on earth in check.
Athens, Georgia art rockers Circulatory System have delivered an extraordinary 46-minute album sculpted from five years worth of accumulated sonic experimentation. Signal Morning ricochets across every raw nerve from the poppiest of impulses to the edge of ostensible sanity, without revealing a single cut corner or uninspired change.
