New single from Sincere: Ain’t Nobody Like You
The UK has been developing some serious talent in the hip hop/dubstep/grime game for a long while now and it’s always a beautiful thing to see kids who were running the mix CD and club circuit game now getting signed to majors. Production values are getting slicker and tunes are gaining crossover appeal, but still appealing to the original heads. Sincere is the next one to blow. This tune seriously drops hard.

PONY’s FW12 Sneaker Collection launch in Berlin
Ricky Powell is commonly known as the Fourth Beastie Boy and Def Jam’s unofficial chronicler. A New York native photographer, it seems logical that he has teamed up with PONY for a limited edition range of dunks that dropped in Berlin last week. I’m no die hard sneaker freak, but these are extremely fresh.
Live at the Soul Dayer: live sound system mix from 1980s
Sound system culture in the UK is what Hip Hop Block Parties were to the US. In the eighties, these sounds took on American and Jamaican influences and gave them an English twist with explosive results. Although too young to go to the soundclashes at the time, Live at the Soul Dayer was a live album which was a MASSIVE influence on me while growing up. It’s an amazing piece of history pressed onto vinyl: a live recording of England’s finest soul and Hip Hop sound systems, including Main Attraction, TNT and Beatfreak. Read more

Is the soul colored or is it black and white? I find this quite confusing, since I believe that a colored soul is necessary for producing colored things. But then again, I’m sure that true color often comes from the deepest broken, damaged and divided black of one’s soul. Digital Jacklight is a mission to try and find out.
Given the amount of talent he has, it’s a mystery why German producer Pantha Du Prince not received more attention than he has. His minimal tech soundscapes are surprisingly melodic and moody, as reflected on his epic track, Asha, as good a starting point to the music of this German electro whiz as any.
Luxury goods have been getting a bad rap lately, and for good reason. Now I don’t know how you roll, but we don’t know many people who enjoy covering themselves head-to-toe in someone else’s initials. Yet for some reason designers think that diamante logos and monogrammed tapestries are the best mediums to communicate their brand. So it’s just as well LA based eyewear label Barton Perreira doesn’t play by the rules. Starting out less than a year ago, you won’t find their designs getting over-excited by insignia. Instead, these guys hand make their frames in Japan to rely on precision, fit and design. And that’s the way it should be.
We have a Contribute Section through which you can post onto LAEM under your name about your favourite pop culture discoveries. So help spread the good word about those talented peeps doing talented things. They win. You win. We win!
