Scott G. Brooks

Scott G Brooks’ subject matter ranges from simple portraiture to intricate narratives. In his paintings, he takes social, psychological, and political issues and injects them with a dark sense of humor. Anatomical distortions separate the figures from the photographic ideal, which gives him the freedom to create his own distorted reality. His work is described as twisted and offbeat, sentimental, and disturbing.

I listen to a lot of metal, and 90-percent of all the album covers I see are covered in skulls, demons, and goats. It’s rare that I see anything that’s really memorable, but I recently stumbled across Swedish black metal band Flagellant’s latest album, Monuments, and the cover really made me pause. Read more

I’ve seen free-jazz spazz outfit Microkingdom many times in their hometown of Baltimore, but their recent gig opening for Skull Defekts was really tight. I found myself head banging to jazz! That hasn’t happened in a while.
