Portrait series on former LA gang members

I was looking at a documentary recently about jails in the US and the gangs that rule inside. One group was the Latino crew. So I went online looking for more info and photos and stumbled upon this series of portraits of former LA gang members. The photographer Adam Amengual shot the series for Homeboy Industries, a non-profit organisation in LA helping these former gang members establish a new life. Read more

Korehira Watanabe: one of the last ancient sword makers

Korehira Watanabe is one of the last 30 ancient sword makers left in Japan. It’s a trade he’s been trying to master for the past 40 years and it’s only in the last five years that he says he’s been succeeding in capturing the craftmanship of the late Koto period (794 – 1333).
