Is Iris van Herpen the next Alexander McQueen?
Amazing. This woman is a true master in her discipline! When I viewed her latest collection, I was stunned. The fashion world is proclaiming her as the next Alexander McQueen. See for yourself.

Portrait series on former LA gang members
I was looking at a documentary recently about jails in the US and the gangs that rule inside. One group was the Latino crew. So I went online looking for more info and photos and stumbled upon this series of portraits of former LA gang members. The photographer Adam Amengual shot the series for Homeboy Industries, a non-profit organisation in LA helping these former gang members establish a new life. Read more
Crazy guys making beautiful things. Raar means ‘strange’ in Dutch and this word is their central point of gravity with everything they do. Oh and purple must be their favorite colour.
Famous people photographed in their homes
Taking a look in other people houses is something we all like to do, especially when those people are famous, well-known or just plain interesting to known. We got the inside word from Josh Diamond of New York experimental group, Gang Gang Dance, on the music that is moving him right now and he started off by propping the beautiful Ryuichi Sakamoto track, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence: ‘It’s just an amazing piece of music — serene, austere (in a heavy, beautiful way), emotional, a great mix of electronic sounds, patient, and a wonderful melody, with a quality of yearning for a better place. Every time I listen to this song, it puts me in a trance’. Read the rest of Gang Gang Dance’s Secret Playlist.

Last week when the 2008 ARIA nominations were released, I was so happy to see the recognition of Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Their album Primary Colours is pure, unadulterated Aussie rock, standing out from the numerous electro releases we’ve had this year. The band manages to capture that wonderful pub-vibe without any pretension or tragic nostalgia. Primary Colours speaks to people who still seek an existence that is all about wearing ripped jeans, loitering and punching people in the face … not in a violent way, but because your fist flailed in that direction while you were thrashing around front of stage.
