When I first encountered one of Quel Beast’s larger than life, technicolour paintings on the street, I was stopped in my tracks. The humor with which he portrays his subjects is genius and his illustrations so halucinatory, you expect them to move.

The guy’s not just a prankster, though he is certainly that, as I witnessed at the opening of one of his shows, Drop That A$$, for which he had Dirty South rap videos projected on a wall on repeat the entire evening. Quel Beast is acutely aware of the human form and his expressionistic characters reveal a man who is instinctively informed of colour and form. All that and he is refreshingly humble.
