Meg: awesome J Pop produced by Yasutaka Nakata

I’ve been in love with MEG for a while. Yasutaka Nakata’s pristine, euphoric J-Pop production is so succulent and rich. It’s unashamed pop music and the Japanese do it better than anyone else. To radiate such timidness and innocence within these large exuberant soundscapes, it makes me want to dance.

Burzum t-shirt

I really want this Burzum t-shirt. In fact, I really want any Burzum T-shirt. I think this particular one may be a little hard to come by actually, I just wanted one soon so I could wear it every night of our tour. I’ve been listening to Hliðskjálf a lot.

Frank Ocean: Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape

He’s the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All affiliate that formerly wrote for Justin Bieber and is rumoured to be currently working with Nas. His Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape is incredible. It is a perfect correlation of euphoric r’n'b, lo-fi pop sensibility and the blunt OFWGKTA aesthetic.

Susan Hiller

I owe my fascination with Susan Hiller to my girlfriend. We went to see the current retrospective of her work at the Tate Britain and PSI GIRLS blew my mind. It’s an incredible example of an artist’s awareness of their audience’s role within their own art. I don’t think this aesthetic is applied to music often enough. She perfectly subverts ‘pop culture’ by using video art as the medium.

Found photos are nothing new, but Internet K-Hole is a nice little blogspot that has some pretty choice images sure to suck you in, including some rarely-seen ones of people like Nirvana, NWA, and Fabio. Some images are NSFW, but they’re not that bad. Read more

Baltimore’s Teeth Mountain create pulsing, shamanistic, tribal-sounding tracks from a bunch of floor toms, cello, mandolins, keyboards, saws, and whatever else they can get their hands on. The chaotic music they make is noisy, roughly-hewn, and impulsive-sounding, but that seems to be the point. They’re trying to evoke a sort of post-apocalyptic primitivism. It will be interesting to see where this collective takes their aesthetic.
