The Art of Sleaze: smut novel covers from 50s and 60s

Old folks these days may complain of all the filth that can be found on the evil internet, but artist Sandra Schnellhaus is here to remind them that in the good old days, all the sleaze and scandal was on the 35c stand at their local servo.

Paperback is an ongoing body of work in which Schnellhaus has recreated a number of (real) under-the-counter smut novel covers of the 1950s and 1960s. Presented as photographic stills with live subjects, the collection of paperback covers celebrates the illustrious worlds of sleaze, booze, drugs and misbehaviour — all the naughty things that would make your nanna’s tea cup rattle.
