The detailed illustrations of Ian Miller

Whether good or bad, there are a few artists who I can credit with keeping me on the art path. Ian Miller is one of those.

From impossibly detailed pen drawings to contributions for movies like Wizards, Ant Bully, and Cool World, Miller continues to create and win awards. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future will bring. Sadly, he is re-vamping his site, there was a lot of work on his old site. Hopefully the new one will be just as magical.

Awesome new work from Bill Carman

Bill Carman is brilliant. He paid me to write that. Seriously, my work though uncategorizeable (is that a word), comes from that mad place that exists in, if we’re honest, all brains and, specifically, mine. Read more

Amazing cartoon skeleton art of Hyungkoo Lee

After spending several disappointing hours in and out of Chelsea and Midtown New York galleries, I stepped into a gallery with the lights dimmed, turned a corner, and was transported to a place where I hovered between childhood and adulthood. Hyungkoo Lee had flawlessly executed life-sized reproductions of skeletons. Read more

Gris Grimly

I’ve enjoyed Gris Grimly’s work for a while now. From children’s books poised on the edge of ‘acceptable’ to completely unacceptable yet embraceable adult work, Grimly has taken up the reigns of artists like Charles Bragg and Edward Gorey for new generations. His latest book, Artum Secretum, is a large sketchbook collection with a good look into his intelligent, twisted mind.

The murkey, smeared paintings of Stef Driesen seem like what it might look like as you pass from this life to the next one: they hint at faded memories as well as utopias yet unrealised. Read more

Lyon-based Babylon Circus is music laced with ska, gypsy, rock, vaudevillian antics, dancehall and reggae. Their first Australian East Coast tour in 2008 saw the nine piece band sell every show out. They feature on the So Frenchy So Chic compilation. We asked them to tell us about their favourite music right now, and they started with Django Reinhardt’s Minor Swing [listen below]: ‘Backstage, home, in the bus, cooking or having breakfast, is there a time you wouldn’t love to hear this one? We love it anytime, any style, too, as it’s been remixed and rearranged so many different ways. Still, we love the original best’.
