Ben Grasso

Ben Grasso creates some of the most exciting paintings I have ever seen. He depicts exploding (or imploding, or disintegrating, I can’t decide) natural and architectural structures, often at surreal angles or amongst clouds. For me though, there’s something quite calming about the considered way in which these subjects are broken up. It’s all very beautiful.

Time lapse mural artworks by Tobias Hall

It’s almost been a year since I painted my first mural, so I decided to collect them all and publish them in one super-duper mural project. The murals have largely been created for Zizzi, who use an artist in every restaurant they open or refurbish and always set a brief which is relevant to the local area. As such, I’ve found myself painting anyone from David Bowie to Winston Churchill to Buffalo Bill.

Tobias Hall designed posters inspired by music lyrics

After graduating I found myself with a lot of time and not much work. I’d been told that in that scenario, it’s usually a good idea to set yourself a few briefs. So I did. I focused mainly on song lyrics for inspiration and tried to create pieces which reflected the feel of the tune, often including the lyrics themselves in the composition. Looking back now, those pieces of work formed the basis of my current illustration style. I don’t think the importance of self-initiated work should ever be underestimated. Read more

Charles Williams (aka Made Up)

Charles Williams is a designer, typographer and illustrator working out of London. If he’s not fashioning beautiful portraits for GQ magazine out of angular and rounded shapes of texture, he will probably be working on the next type project for Nike or Adobe. Definitely one of my favourite designers at the moment. Read more

His name is Marshall. At just over 8 months old, you don’t need to be clucky to appreciate his outfits: from Baby Gap to Cheap Monday, and sometimes not much more than a cheeky grin. This bub oozes charisma and his clothes suit him to a tee (pun intended).

Analog electronics by British outfit Belbury Poly (Jim Jupp and Eric Zann) make me believe machines have souls and the ghosts of obsolete recording devices are haunting the dusty stacks of libraries debating the relevance of 60s avant-garde music and counterculture.

I disagree, but the Tights are not pants manifesto is pretty funny. There’s some history and arguments on why tights shouldn’t be worn as pants, and a downloadable kit with printable flyers to spread the word. A commendable effort. Do you agree tights are not pants? I’m all for tights as pants, as long they’re, ahem, worn well.
