Free-motion embroidered portrait by Michael-Birch Pierce
Michael-Birch Pierce is an MFA candidate in Fibers at Savannah College of Art and Design. This incredible video is, in his own words, ‘one in a series of free-motion embroidered portraits. All portraits are done from life, in one sitting, and are completely unplanned. No preliminary drawing or sketching, just an impulsive gesture drawing using the machine. My goal with these pieces is to find life in the machine’. Watch on in awe.

OMG! It is like doing a blind drawing where there is a direct connection between the eye and the machine and the mind is somehow disconnected from trying to control the outcome! This is GREAT! So fresh!
