Michael Peck
I have worked with Michael Peck on a few projects including an upcoming print release on Stupid Krap. His work is creepy: kind of like stills from weird horror movies, where children control the score.

Paxton Gate: a taxidermy store in San Francisco
I went into this taxidermy store today in the Mission, San Francisco. There’s something appealing about dead stuffed animals trying to look cute.

Young and Free exhibition: Australian art in San Francisco
I’m part of an all-Australian group exhibition at 941 Geary, San Francisco which opened on September 10 called Young and Free. The exhibition features artwork by Ha-Ha, Kid Zoom, Anthony Lister, Vexta, Reka, Dmote, Rone, Meggs, New2 and Sofles. We’ll all be in town, and unlike our convict heritage, we won’t be taking prisoners.

Hotel Vertigo: where Hitchcock’s Vertigo was set
Vertigo is a 1958 psychological thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. A lot of the action takes place in The Empire Hotel, which is actually a real place and the awesome little hotel I’ve been staying in. It’s called the Vertigo Hotel now, but there’s nothing like getting into bed with Judy and Alfred and a little bit of history.

Artists like Japanese-born Yuken Teruya who can see beautiful shapes, patterns, and forms hiding within toilet paper rolls, discarded pizza boxes, and junk food bring contemporary artistic practice back into the realm of innocence and life affirming beauty. Anyone who can look at Teruya’s work and still scoff at the value of art lives a sad existence.
3fram.es is a website made by Eyebeam fellow Aaron Meyers. It uses your computer’s webcam to take a series of pictures and uploads them into the site’s always-growing gallery of animated gifs. There’s an iPhone app for it, too, which we used to document moments of our last tour. Gifs are great because they’re way smaller than movie files, and they’re more exciting than still images.

The nice thing about black metal is that it’s so hard for it to be co-opted. Between its often extreme ideologies and its inherently abrasive sound, it’s hard to imagine anyone trying to sell you a pair of sneakers with it. Even as some bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth have wormed their way into the mainstream, the vast majority of black metal fans and bands out there are happy to stay in the filthy pits of the underground.
