Geirrod Van Dyke

I love Geirrod Van Dyke’s work for his portrayal of our imperfections and vulnerabilities. The first thing that caught my eye were the bodies and the pools of light, but there is a sense of impending doom that creeps in and it feels like all the iPads in the worlds won’t do a thing to stop it. Of course, I have always had a soft spot for the end of the world.

Caricatures of musicians by The Flying Dutchman

Here are some caricatures of musicians that I recently completed. The obvious big names are Jack White and Lana Del Rey, while the two newbies are South African upstarts Spoek Mathambo and Johannine. Read more

Cover art for Something Wicked magazine

I recently completed yet another cover for Something Wicked magazine, a great little indie sci-fi and horror monthly. This time I got to indulge my inner geek somewhat with a space station, shuttle and messed-up planet Earth down below. Better than real work any day of the week.

The craziest looking wedding site you’ll ever see

This page recently came to my attention, and despite my best attempts to expose it as a Christwire-type parody, I could not. This is, in fact, a legitimate wedding service site that will make your brain melt in no time. It has to be experienced, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Many years ago, the Italian designer Fupete and I collaborated on an issue of the magazine I was editing at the time, STU, his intricate art direction giving space and life to the cacophony of illustrations and photography bursting from its pages. The guy is one hell of an art director, and a brilliant designer as well, his latest work revealing his well-developed sense of shape and texture, which meshes seamlessly with his subtle use of color gradients. When I visited the Big Apple, I had a Mexican man serenade me with his Spanish guitar at the station. But why didn’t I see any crazy folk when I rode New York’s subway? Seriously, this post by Do While is hilarious and exposes people embarrassingly sleeping, wearing daring attire, and carrying pet rats in their mouths! Read more

We asked Ham and Pete, from New York band The Walkmen, to give us the rundown on the music that is inspiring them right now and they started off with a track from that elder statesmen of indie folk, Bonnie Prince Billy, Goin’ to Acapulco: ‘He did a remarkable job of putting a unique spin on a classic. It’s no small feat, and it’s a really impressive version’. Read more of The Walkmen’s Secret Playlist.

David Holmes’ fourth solo album has been a long time in the making. The man who is best known for his scoring of films such as Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13, and remixing for bands like U2 and The Manic Street Preachers, took just over ten years to make his latest album. Read more

On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect.
