Nicola Samori

Italian painter Nicola Samori is a man out of his time. He paints meticulously detailed Baroque-style portraits reminiscent of Caravaggio and Van Dyck.

Samori creates eerie and chilling figures that live in a world I’d be happy only to observe from a distance. Flesh melting, decaying, at times he even rips paint right off the canvas only to reveal deep and ominous black holes. His works are gorgeous and relentlessly captivating.

Pop culture icon portraits by Rich Pellegrino

My latest series of paintings split in two parts of pop culture icons and figurative works. Depending on the subject, I usually find myself keeping things light and fun but never at the expense of quality and character, which is what is most important to me artistically. Read more

UK-based design firm DIY Kyoto has come up with a clever plan to allow homeowners to visibly see how much energy they are using in their home at any given moment. Wattson, a portable and wireless device, hooks up to the main fuse box of any home and a bright display shows how much energy is being used in either in watts or cost over the past 28 days. The program also allows the user to put the information online in a community, where ideas about saving electricity are shared.

What can’t Jay Z do? Not content with having recorded the contemporary tribute to Gotham City, the all round entrepreneur has just launched an online lifestyle magazine called Life and Times, which the mighty one will personal curate.

I almost forgot — metal is really about being drunk, pissed, offensive, and satanic. I have Bestial Mockery to thank for this. Their no-frills black thrash is barebones and snarling without being too dead-pan serious. These guys from Sweden are clearly having a blast worshiping the Dark One in the tradition of old-school bands like Venom, early Bathory, and Sodom. Nothing too original here, but it’s fun as hell.

There’s nothing I don’t adore about this eco-friendly line of couture clothing, fashioned by Allysun Maria Dutra out of LA. Read more
