Dolton Ghetti’s amazing pencil tip sculptures
The moment I saw Dolton Ghetti’s amazing sculptures, the first thing that came to my mind was ‘Why?!’ But it takes such an obvious level of skill and out of this world patience (not to mention, a steady hand) to create these mini gems, that I was instantly awestruck. His inimitable work is now showcased at Lori Warner Studio. It’s probably easier to create art through a pencil than on the actual tip of one.

Light fitting made from discarded French oak wine barrels
The barrel oak recycled from discarded wine casks is a ‘green’ material vastly appreciated by innovative furniture designers. But what about the hoops? Stil Novo Design’s Orbit lamp offers a solution that not only makes use of the metal bands from the used barrels, but it also creates a fresh design that complements the contemporary trends of urban and industrial flavor. Steel never looked so handsome. Read more

Coffee tables and coffins made from crushed Ferraris
Ferrari cars represent a social status and decadent life style most of us will only dream of. The fascination with this symbol of wealth and success must have hit designer Charly Molinelli pretty hard as he turns the carcasses of crushed Ferraris into coffee tables and coffins. Could this be our chance to finally own one?

Interior design website, Apartment Therapy, just posted some amazing pictures of ’70s rock stars in their parents’ homes. My favorite is of David Crosby and his dad [below]. The two look so completely opposite of each other that it’s hard to believe that it’s Crosby’s real dad. They also look like they’re barely concealing the contempt they have for each other. Crosby’s father was an Academy-Award-winning cinematographer who shot Tabu and High Noon, amongst other well-known films. Read more
The latest band to make LA proud is tropical-nu wave act Abe Vigoda. These guys are so new and so exciting that even your grandparents don’t know who they are. Yet! They describe themselves as tropical punk, but I like to think of them as nihilistic rockers — no form, no shape, just chaos. If LA’s new breed of punk popstars such as Health, Meiko Meiko and Pocohauntas make you tremble, then this band are sure to get you very worked up.
