Signed & Numbered: a Melbourne concept space
The little gallery that could, Signed & Numbered is a Melbourne concept space challenging your perception of how an art gallery can feel.
Director Jacqui Vidal explains: ‘Signed & Numbered was born out of the need for a gallery that truly embodies the principles of quality affordable art. I wanted to create a space that made people feel relaxed and welcome, the right environment for art lovers to view and fully appreciate art, without the intimidation of a stuffy gallery’. Go see for yourself, and be surprised how far the rules can be bent.

Cool video for Sparkadia’s song Mary filmed by Fiona Trick
Free spirited and wildly creative film-maker, Fiona Trick, took inspiration from her recent travels through Mexico for the film clip for Sparkadia’s latest single, Mary. Shot in Kiama, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, the desolate, angular rock formations and gloomy sky provide a dramatic setting, fitting to the epic and hymn-like song.

If I were to ask any of my illustrator friends who their favorite artists are, chances are almost all of them would list Raymond Pettibon as one of them. His work is beautiful, using such confident brush strokes.
Kristen Ferrell’s artwork is, as her bio puts it, beauty vs. grotesque’ and I’ve always been fascinated by it. I’m not an art critic, but my kids refer to her work as both ‘really beautiful’ and ‘really icky’, which I think sums it up nicely. Read more

Last weekend I went to the Golden West in Baltimore to check out the What Cheer? Brigade, a marching band from Providence. I wasn’t expecting much, but when they opened with a cover of Slayer’s Raining Blood, my knees buckled. I think I could hear a musak version of that riff, and I’d still bang my head. The rest of the band’s set was just as riotous, with people dancing so hard, you’d think we were at Mardi Gras. I haven’t had that much fun at a show in ages.
