Ashley Wood
I developed an unhealthy fixation with Ashley Wood’s work a couple of years ago, probably due to the loose energy with which he uses his media and his subject matter of big robots, retro military action, zombies and lots of naked ladies. The overriding factor, however, is how effortless he makes it all look, beautiful in its simplicity and muted tones.

Caricatures of musicians by The Flying Dutchman
Here are some caricatures of musicians that I recently completed. The obvious big names are Jack White and Lana Del Rey, while the two newbies are South African upstarts Spoek Mathambo and Johannine. Read more

Cover art for Something Wicked magazine
I recently completed yet another cover for Something Wicked magazine, a great little indie sci-fi and horror monthly. This time I got to indulge my inner geek somewhat with a space station, shuttle and messed-up planet Earth down below. Better than real work any day of the week.

The craziest looking wedding site you’ll ever see
This page recently came to my attention, and despite my best attempts to expose it as a Christwire-type parody, I could not. This is, in fact, a legitimate wedding service site that will make your brain melt in no time. It has to be experienced, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I saw a show of Cherie Weaver’s a few years back at a local café in Austin and absolutely fell in love with her style and the little goat/human/squirrel creatures that inhabit many of her pieces. So much so that I commissioned her to do the artwork for my album, One Thing Right.

Let them sing it for you is a web widget that allows you to type in a sentence which is then played back using the same words culled from a library of popular songs. For instance if you type the word “I” it will play Chris Isaak singing that word in the song Wicked Games. If a word cannot be found, you can enter a song which contains the missing word and expand the library.
Starting off as a music blog, and recently reaching to the world through their online radio, etm.fm focuses on music that does not receive commercial attention from radio stations in South Africa. The site has only been running since February 2011 and the station since January 2012. But it’s all growing in audience very quickly.
My band, Bloody Panda, used to perform on stage wearing executioner hoods. We’ve stopped doing that, but I’m going to suggest that we all wear panda hat/scarves.
