Beautiful new work by Australian artist Kareena Zerefos

A month of double espressos, sleepless nights, and a love affair with Copic Markers, and I’m (almost) ready to ship all of my work back to the home land (sunny Australia) to exhibit over September and October. I’ve continued to explore the connection between human and animal, and have also become a little fascinated with the idea of illusion and concealment.
Friday 16th September
Retrospect Galleries, Broadbeach, Gold Coast
Thursday 13th October
Libby Edwards Galleries, Armadale, Melbourne (with Vitor Dos Santos)

Cool video for Sparkadia’s song Mary filmed by Fiona Trick

Free spirited and wildly creative film-maker, Fiona Trick, took inspiration from her recent travels through Mexico for the film clip for Sparkadia’s latest single, Mary. Shot in Kiama, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, the desolate, angular rock formations and gloomy sky provide a dramatic setting, fitting to the epic and hymn-like song.

After narrowly escaping having the long-held secret to his identity revealed on eBay, Banksy has uploaded the original storyboard for his (in)famous Simpsons intro onto his website. Marvel at the genius of it all.

The Obama campaign was one of the most visually effective in recent history, brilliantly tapping modern marketing concepts and design to get its message across. The deceptively simple logo they chose stemmed from an amalgamation of a lot of different concepts the Obama designers came up with. Logo Design Love just posted all the different looks that weren’t used.

I had the pleasure of seeing Duran Duran play a few weeks back in the balmy drizzle of New York’s Central Park. I always thought the guys had more cheek than they were ever given credit for. But don’t be fooled! For a band so rooted in the immediacy of disposable pop, they wrote some timeless songs, none more so than The Chauffeur.

When my uber-creative and slightly eccentric twin brother announced one day that chainmail would be making a return, it only confirmed that he’d missed out on the fashion genes. But after checking out the fingerless chainmail glove in Toby Jones’ new collection — My hands are tied — it now appears he had a legitimate vision. Working a look straight out of a Mad Max scene, Jones’ designs will have us accessorizing in true post-apocalyptic style, using everyday objects as adornment. But you don’t need to be cruising around town in a black Interceptor to appreciate them. Be your own character with chain swinging padlocks and multi-purpose shoelaces. It’s about time you got your hands into something different.
