Art based on predicting the future by studying animal entrails

Helen Friel is a Paper Engineer and Illustrator, working in the lovely Papered Parlour, London. She graduated from Central Saint Martin’s in 2009 with a First in BA Graphic Design.

Her recent series, Predictions, is a collaboration with photographer Chris Turner, exploring the art of Hepatomancy — predicting the future by studying animal entrails — first practiced by the Babylonians over 4000 years ago.

Cool video for Sparkadia’s song Mary filmed by Fiona Trick

Free spirited and wildly creative film-maker, Fiona Trick, took inspiration from her recent travels through Mexico for the film clip for Sparkadia’s latest single, Mary. Great British artist — I love his paintings — and this is a great little insight into how he works. Whenever I read interviews with artists, it’s always their working process I find most interesting. Cooke’s multilayered approach is not dissimilar to my own, though clearly his work is very different. Read more

Driven by a wide spectrum of influences, the music of Brass Bed moves easily through an eclectic mix of genres: from alt-country ballads and progressive rock hooks, to sticky-sweet, heart-felt lyrics, and dissonant experimental freak-outs. As some wise folk have noted, it’s kinda like a cross between The Beach Boys and The Flaming Lips. Now, how could that be a bad thing? We have two of their songs — Olivia [listen below] and Polar Bird — available for free download in the Music Download section in the third column of Lost At E Minor.
