The Village Idiot in Maumee, Ohio
Seems like everywhere I go, someone says: ‘There’s nothinnngggg to dooo in Ohioooo’. Well, there is, kids. Now, I didn’t know there was anything to do in Maumee, Ohio. In fact, I’d never heard of it until I played at the Village Idiot there a few months ago and had one of the gooiest, chewiest, thin-crustiest, sausagiest pizzas I have ever had in my life.
Actually, I had two. That combined with the fact that pretty badass musicians (Bobby Bare Jr. is there quite often) play there makes the Village Idiot an excellent place to go in my eyes — and mouth and ears.

Lydia Loveless on her new album: Indestructible Machine
Sometimes bad habits, like drinking too much, can make you feel invincible and cause you to forget that you’re doing severe damage to yourself. Indestructible Machine was a poem I wrote with that in mind and it summed up the way I was feeling and tied all the songs together. Read more

It seems like I always stumble across Joe Hill’s writing in a time of desperate need for something to read. Most recently was when I was on tour and searching up and down for a good bookstore. Just as I’d given up and decided no one reads in San Diego, we found a little indie bookstore and Horns jumped at me off one of the shelves. Read more
The Carper Family play O Brother live in Austin
I was lucky enough to play with these girls at the Empty Glass in Charleston, West Virginia, last month. Their songs truly make you want to cry in your beer, or dance in your cowboy boots, or sit on the porch and chew grass, or whatever people say about bluegrass. I’m pretty sure Melissa Carper could sing that Great Green Gobs of Greasy Grimey Gofer Guts song and the heartbreaking softness of her voice would still show through.

It kicked off in Australia with artist and China Heights curator Ed Woodley giving the Aussie crate a good lick of paint at Sydney’s Darling Harbour [pictured], and the crate will be making it’s way around the country before enjoying a send off party in October. Whitest Boy Alive follow their own rules: no overdubs, no FX, and the music is always recorded live in one take. Fronted by Erlend Øye (of Kings Of Convenience notoriety), the Berlin collective produce a distinctive blend of minimalist melodies and pillowy grooves. And on the eleven tracks that constitute their new album, Rules, they convey one polite directive: please, move your body. We have their latest single, Island [listen below], available for free download in the Music Download section of the Lost At E Minor site [pssst, it's in the third column], along with new releases by Vic Chestnutt, Winter Gloves, and Cut Off Your Hands.
