Growing up in Westchester County, NY before the internet became such a prevalent part of our daily lives, I used to go up to the Bruised Apple in the town of Peekskill. I loved spending afternoons rifling through all their used books and records, and back when they had a cafe, I used to sit and read.

I think I got most of my first copies of Kurt Vonnegut, Henry Miller, and Philip Roth novels there. I probably would have gotten into much more trouble if that place didn’t exist. I’m glad the place is still around.
