Mark Bradford
Mark Bradford is one of the most under-rated African- American artists, with captivating and stunning work. I first heard of him when I would glance at sites like Black Art in America as I was looking to see what was new in the black art world. I love his work and his story. His cityscapes and use of color are amazing.

He has an exhibition in Chicago at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago right now. I saw it and I really liked it.

With all due respect and echoing slightly the earlier comments, African-American artists as a whole are underrated but I would not say Mark Bradford is particularly extreme in this regard. He has a major touring retrospective and he’s only 50 this year. He won a MacArthur Genius grant; his work is in the collections of all the major museums; and he has been featured on the television program Art 21. I am thrilled that you are putting the word out about him but let’s celebrate his formidable accomplishments and the success he has achieved (which is remarkable for an artist of any race), rather than making him out to be a marginal figure, which he most certainly is not. While he may have endured challenges along the way that his white counterparts have not, he is hardly underrated.
Thank-you for this post.

Somebody should mod a functional X-Box to look like Ben Winfield’s awesome wooden sculpture of the iconic gaming unit.
Christopher Wallace’s drawing tools of choice are a bicycle and GPS. His canvas of choice is his Baltimore neighborhood. First he plans his routes with something in mind (check out his free-style hydra and centaur), then he takes to the bike trail while tracking his movements using GPS. Geeky and awfully cheeky. I adore the band Health and am left fascinated by this glamorously bouncy We Are Water remix by Canadian duo Azari & III, who have taken it to outer house-space. It’s pure 80s late night disco at its finest. Ghost Buster meets Short Circuit, anyone?

this is important and i don’t mean to sound harsh but we do not say afro-american anymore. not for a long time now. it’s african american. also ‘black art world’ is pretty offensive. do we even need to point out he’s black. is just an artist. zolton, will you take a look at this and reconsider?
