Villa Devatas, Bali

My friend had been talking about the full moon party on Gili Trawangan for the last five months, but within 30 minutes of arriving at Villa Devatas that plan had gone to hell. We had only planned to stay one night before heading off to the Gilis at the crack of dawn, except that after a tour of our villa and the property, it was clear that the half a day we had there wasn’t going to be long enough.

Now when I say villa, I don’t mean just one. The place is a compound made up of four single story villas, all complete with indoor and outdoor showers, gigantic king-sized canopy beds, Bulgari bathroom products, day beds overlooking the tropical gardens and luxurious freestanding baths. If you think that sounds good, just wait until you see the main abode. Set away from the others, this two-story villa comes complete with its own private infinity pool, bathtub built around a boulder and outdoor conversation pit. The communal areas of the property surround one of the most amazing pools we have ever seen and include dining and living areas, a day spa, gym, pool room and media room.

Set along the Ayang River, the property has been designed with relaxation in mind. Round the clock nannies, chefs, drivers and housekeepers mean you can listen to the calming river acoustics as much as you like. You can even organise a private yoga lesson by the pool or a scuba lesson in it.

Daimon Downey designs art scarves for Bay & Fyfe

If you’ve been wondering what Daimon Downey’s getting up to since he left Sneaky Sound System, he’s been making art. He teamed up with concept label Bay & Fyfe after the label’s owner Frith Hucks purchased a piece from Downey’s solo exhibition in New York late last year. Together they’ve created wearable art in the form of luxurious limited edition scarves. Drawing on a series of six paintings titled Pastel Zoo, Downey’s works transfer paint into print and play off the notion of life versus death and good versus evil. Each scarf comes in a run of 400, so grab one before they disappear. Read more

When you live in North Bondi, slash Rose Bay, you don’t just cross through the Jersey Shore summer crowd of Middle Bondi for any old bar. But you do when it’s The Anchor, a cool little port in South Bondi and our new hang. Owned by Steve Wasley (of Bondi Massive café three doors up), Jon Laurenson, Sam Cockle and Georgia Bennett, The Anchor Bar and Restaurant isn’t just another tapas joint with a bunch of cool dudes behind the bar and in the kitchen. Women’s wetsuits by Byron Bay label Tallow

Learning to surf is hard. There’s reading the waves, respecting the line-up, and not freaking out when a big set rolls in. But the biggest challenge of all is finding gear that’s not just functional but fashionable. Call me superficial, but I don’t want to hit the beach wearing some generic ensemble that clashes with my board. So you can imagine my delight when I came across a super cool range of women’s wetsuits by Byron Bay-based label, Tallow. Read more

Describing the work of my friend, Melbourne artist Gervaise Netherway, it’s hard not to notice the impalpable resemblence to the likes of Basquiat and Salvador Dali. Whether deliberate or not, he constructs that same surreal neo-impressionism. I can’t wait to hang one on my wall. Read more

We are blown away by the rich, vibrant, mystical, mischevious world of Australian artist Jason Howe, who ‘draws directly from a subconscious drenched in the hallucinogenic, technicolour imagery of Saturday morning cartoons’. His work was most recently on show at Sydney’s Monstrosity Gallery. Read more

If you thought that fashion and science had nothing in common, think again. Now we creative types have little time for heavy discussion about scientific facts, so we’ll get straight to the point. Emerging Sydney designer Dion Lee has interpreted ‘mitosis’, the process where cells divide, in an impressive first collection that’s already gaining a cult following. Read more
