The pioneering street art of Lady Pink
Being female and involved in the graffiti and street art culture, the beautiful and talented Lady Pink is one of my most inspirational female artists. Born in Ecuador and raised in New York, she started writing graffiti in 1970 and was one of the only females involved in the scene at the time.
Pink painted subway trains in the 70s and 80s and had a starring role the motion picture Wild Style. That and many of her other contributions to graffiti made her a cult figure in the hip-hop subculture. She still continues to create beautiful works on canvass and murals. I am currently painting a portrait of her which will be exhibited in Melbourne later on this year. I hope she will like it!
