Henrijis Priess

I came across Henrijis Priess whilst browsing about random art blogs looking for a good album cover, and was startled by his bold collection of paintings.

They all share a refined order, perfect geometries resembling illustrations of archaic astronomy, and likewise hint at traditional mandala layouts of the Far East. But there’s a sharp contemporary edge and precision to his works, and it leaves one with a handful of questions about the recurring symbols and their meanings or, perhaps, lack thereof.

Ellen Rogers

Some art, no matter what trends come and go, exists in its own time capsule, a boundless moment in space. Ellen Rogers’ photography reminds me of this. Her images reflect a striking allure and mystery, yet the scenes have almost a clichéd originality, like you’ve seen them a million times before. Yet, you have no idea where to actually find them. Ghostdancer Jeweley

When I first saw the freakishly long, beaded Ghostdancer earrings on a friend of mine, I was shocked to actually be looking at something undoubtedly inspired by Native American art that didn’t actually insult someone’s culture. Read more

Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. Motown, baby, MOTOWN!’ We have the song for free download in our Music Download section [psst, it's in the third column of the site]

Alfred Hitchcock’s icy heroines inspired Yeojin Bae’s Autumn Winter 09 collection. Its 40s noir meets modern day muse with seductive tailoring and asymmetric style. Yeojin Bae’s signature has become ultra-feminine shapes contrasted with coveted tailored separates Unravelled shapes are expertly tailored. Raw edge silk blouses have dipping necklines and are worn boxy and loose. Wool Angora overcoats feature a dramatic bias cut hem and buckled flare sleeve in black or herringbone. Flame red chiffon falls delicately into an asymmetric wrap skirt, as figure hugging stretch leggings bring billowing shapes back into the body. Read more
