Yacht: Utopia/Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)

Weird little video from Yacht for new song Utopia/Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire). The spatial environment in the video is a 3D visualization of the ideas of the radical architecture group Superstudio, whose vision of Utopia was a world without buildings and objects.

Hotel: a sculptural work made from scavenged signage

Tom Fruinis a Brooklyn artist who just completed HOTEL, a new sculptural work made from colorful scavenged signage collected from all corners of the city over the past two decades and fronted by four-stroke red neon. The signs are made with hand-printed fruit and pizza, air conditioner repair advertisements, warnings, and phone numbers, all found in demolished pizzerias in DUMBO and in old warehouses on the Bowery. It’s a 50 foot tall marquee on the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Read more

Brooklyn art show of new work by Troy Mattison Hicks

My latest work represents a candy colored future where synthetic and human features are hard to distinguish, yet will be equally as beautiful. ’Hot Guys or Androids’ could be the alternate title of the series. The opening party is tonight at Yashar Gallery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, between 6-10pm. Read more

Lu Cong’s cultural identity, split between mainland China where he was born in 1978 and small-town Midwest where he immigrated to 11 years later, informs his beautiful portraits mostly of white, American women. The images harken back to old cigarette ads from pre-Communist China, as well as the 18th-century Romantics in the West. Read more

Interior design website, Apartment Therapy, just posted some amazing pictures of ’70s rock stars in their parents’ homes. My favorite is of David Crosby and his dad [below]. The two look so completely opposite of each other that it’s hard to believe that it’s Crosby’s real dad. They also look like they’re barely concealing the contempt they have for each other. Crosby’s father was an Academy-Award-winning cinematographer who shot Tabu and High Noon, amongst other well-known films. Read more

Athens, Georgia art rockers Circulatory System have delivered an extraordinary 46-minute album sculpted from five years worth of accumulated sonic experimentation. Signal Morning ricochets across every raw nerve from the poppiest of impulses to the edge of ostensible sanity, without revealing a single cut corner or uninspired change.
