Prophet-600: a vintage synth explorer

On-the-go Rave. I bought this thing last fall from a dude in Brooklyn, and our new album relies on its bass. Many of the melodies are better understood once run through the Prophet. I’m pretty happy with it, but I’ve got my eyes on a Jupiter 6 now. There’s always something missing.

Zehreela Insaan: a 1974 Bollywood classic

This 1974 sleeper hit makes any Hollywood love story look like a joke. It’s pretty intense, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I don’t want to give a plot summary or anything like that, because I don’t want to give it away. And don’t check IMDB, because they said it was one of the biggest Bollywood flops ever. Untrue.

Ryan Koopmans

He’s the new paparazzi. He’s in Sweden right now and he just emailed me some new pictures. I’ve known Ryan Koopmans since we were young. He’s from Victoria, too. I don’t have a fetish about people from Victoria. I just think a lot of talented people have come from there, like Steve Nash, for example. Read more

New Balance: 993

This is a really strong shoe, and lasts a long, long time. My dad says that you should replace your shoes every eight months, but I haven’t replaced these in a year and a half. I like running at night. It’s the only time New York City feels empty. There’s only Chinese men fishing in the East River and a few couples making out.

They say you should never cross a black cat. Well, anyone who happened to stumble upon this scene in Hollywood, 1961, was in for one hell of a fright, or thirty. Yup, there’s more black cats here than you can poke a leash at. But interesting is the age range of the pets’ owners. Hard to imagine a comparative scene these days. Music isn’t necessarily a serious venture. It’s almost funny when you find some you know will grate to dust the stiff upper lipped critics of the world. Every now and then I like the type of sound that hops around the edge of your ears without working its way into your brain and messing up the seratonin levels. And Californian 16-piece tropical-ska-pop group, Still Flyin’, do just that for me. It’s a good laugh, quite catchy, and an awesome live experience so I’m told: especially with the sun out, a can of cider in your hand and a bunch of grinning faces skanking around you.

I am one of those typical New Yorkers who only wears black in winter. But this winter is different. With the economic crisis, and all the rest of the bad news, I have to fight the darkness in the world by wearing colors, and lots of them. Spanish designer Sybilla is known for her original designs and unique color schemes, but she is virtually unknown outside of her mother country and Japan, where she is super popular. Her younger brand Jocomomola is perfect for this gloomy winter. Read more
