Battles: Ice Cream (Featuring Matias Aguayo)

I’m always drawn to originality and a contemporary beyond the new, especially in the fine art of painting, but also, just as importantly, in music. Pushing the boundaries of what is rock, Battles create a sound I think a group of five year olds would make if they had twenty years musical experience.

Experimental, progressive, invigorating and exciting, Glass Drop, the second album from Battles, continues and expands from the mold of their first LP, Mirrored. They have the unique post rock sound kindergarten children would love to party to!

Sketch The Rhyme: spontaneous performance art

I’m happy to be involved with this audio/visual experimental, improvised performance troop consisting of four artists, three freestyling MCs, and a live four piece band. Inspired by Pictionary, Mr. Squiggle and animation, Sketch the Rhyme incorporates live drawing projected for the audience to see, rappers freestyling, and it’s all being inspired by the sketching. Internet Pinball Database

The Internet Pinball Database is great for all things Pinball related. For all those enthusiasts still stuck in the 70s and early 90s that struggle to be torn away from the classic Bally/Williams machines (like me), the IPDB will help your gameplay on all those other machines now that Bally/Williams have shut up shop. With a huge listing of 5,347 games, the Internet Pinball Database is a comprehensive and easily searchable site for Pinball fanatics.

New York photographer Sarah Wilmer creates dark, nightmare-inducing photographs that have a strange sense of innocence about them. They’re like movie stills, a cross between Lost Highway and Pan’s Labyrinth. We interviewed her recently to get the inside word on the inspirations behind her work. Read more

Whenever I’ve had enough of the odd behavior that surfaces due to people being crammed on a train in New York, I check out Subway Douchery and start feeling better as I laugh along with the administrators of this site. It’s just something every New Yorker can relate to because, sometimes, the subway is a freak show. Read more

Bay Area duo The Human Quena Orchestra sounds like a skyscraper falling in slow motion with their scraping, crashing, screeching drone pounded out of guitars, samplers, and circuit-bent electronics. Listen to their track Progress below.

I’ve posted about New Orleans artist Ryn Wilson before, but I also wanted to plug her awesome clothing line, Altar. Nothing’s up at her Etsy shop right now, but keep checking back. Read more

Inspired by Caspar David Friedrich and American Space Travel, the Das Nebelmeer print by Rebel Unlit features a unique collage of mountains and space shuttle smoke. We love this surreal piece, and its partner in crime, the Der Wanderer print. Both works are giclee prints on cotton matt archival 310 gsm paper.
