Cannt: for advertising creatives that, err, can’t

The world of advertising creatives can be split into two groups: those who Cannes, and those who Cannt. The Cannt festival is in the midst of it’s inaugural year in sunny East London.

With a plethora of events on this week, it’s there for the little and not-so-little people who’ve spent countless late nights creating great ideas and are not likely to ever see the light of Cannes. Events include industry talks, competitions, short film screenings, battle of the bands, a live painting show and daily sponsored drinks and parties. Personally, I think I’d rather Cannt.

Retrograd: a vintage design store in Copenhagen

In a town where even your local bank branch hangs designer lights, and the high street has everything a product nerd could hope for, it’s hard to imagine you might still find some hidden gems. Fortunately, in Copenhagen, this is not the case. Read more

Awesome moving gifs by Davidope

Budapest-based creative genius Davidope has created this collection of hypnotic gifs to get us walking like chickens. I’m sure of it. If not that, then maybe we’re all going to quit smoking and fall asleep at the click of his fingers. Whatever the reason, these gifs will certainly send you into a trance. By giving life and movement to these modular graphics, he somehow gives them a sense of purpose and personality. Read more

Tea Pot Cafe in Fort Kochi, India

For anyone traveling to India, the state of Kerala is a must. And for anyone traveling to Kerala, The Tea Pot Cafe in Fort Kochi is an absolute must. Relaxed and elegantly worn goes with the territory in these parts, but this particular cafe has all the local tastes and flavours, with the quirkiness and natural cool you might find people trying to replicate in other parts of the world. A homage to the teapot, this cafe offers food and hot and cold beverages in an interior littered with vintage teapots, trinkets and relics from the old tea trade days of the Malabar coast.

My friend and fine artist Sara Wolfe sent me this link of Chicago based artist Diego Leclery. He created this flash animation Panda, to celebrate the recent Beijing Olympics. He initially said he would take it down after the closing ceremony, but it is still up, so watch this cool one before it’s gone!

The frontman for Sydney trailblazers, Paper Scissors, has just dropped his first solo EP under the alias of Pork Pies, and it’s an absolute beaut. Like the Paper Scissors’ more low-key numbers, there’s a real feeling of raw nostalgia running through the record. Jai Pyne’s distinctive vocals linger on your eardrums for a while after they’ve ceased, anchored down by a poignancy and sense of longing.

Ok, so I’m wearing this sweater right now. How could I not. The damn thing shares the same name as me. Well, kinda. My parents threw in an ‘o’ into my name just to confuse the life out of people. But that’s a whole another story. The Zoltan is comfortable, soft, and colorful. It has ‘no fortune-telling capabilities’, but the ‘lightweight progressive color stripe scheme has an undeniably funky 70s vibe’. And it does. Yeeha. Now, where the hell is my bell bottoms and Grateful Dead vinyl?
