David Takeo Neptune directed video for Ken Tanaka Band
A few weeks ago, I posted a link to up and coming American-Japanese director David Takeo Neptune’s Onstar parody. Here is the beautiful new music video he just shot for the Ken Tanaka Band.

Everybody Dies: A Children’s Book for Grown Ups
This is my new book, Everybody Dies: A Children’s Book for Grown Ups. It’s my first full book, and it took me about 14 months to write and illustrate it. It was hard work and it’s very gratifying to finally see it in print.

Paul Frank’s latest exhibit at Copro Gallery in Los Angeles is one of the most whimsical and fun shows I have seen in a long time. His characters create an imaginary world that I hope to live in someday. Maybe for retirement.

Gary Musgrave is a recent graduate from Art Center College of Design, and is quickly gaining fame as an illustrator and printmaker. He just did a great cover of Harper’s magazine. Musgrave is a DIY purist, and usually burns his silkscreens in the sun instead of under a lamp. His work has a kind of intimacy that gives you an immediate feeling of his personality and sense of humor.

These sculptures by Korean artist Gwon Osang are made from hundreds of photographs of the original subjects, overlayed onto life-sized mannequins to create an effect which is both realistic and surreal at the same time. Read more
Jelle Martens combines three things I love in his In the Quivering Forest series: nature, geometric shapes, and fabulous retro colors. His perfectly balanced compositions weave together photographs and blocks of color in a refreshingly unique way.

Square America is a photo blog that’s sort of like Found magazine, but with more rhyme and reason. The eerie, antique photos are organized by theme, subject matter, and even the ways in which time or lens imperfections distort the images. Read more
After getting lost in the quagmire that is the internet, M83’s Digital Shades, first released digitally in 2007, has just been given a space on the shelf in your nearest music shop. Before shooting to acclaim with Saturday=Youth, Anthony Gonzalez looked closer to Krautrock and Eno and produced this ambient sometimes beautiful record. There’s much less of a disco feel than both Saturdays and his first album, Before the Dawn Heals Us. Some might say it’s a bit self-indulgent, not easily accessible, and more of a soundscape than a pop attempt. Yet, like Eno, Gonzalez is slowly becoming a master of the perfect chord sequence, and the result is an interesting, often heart-wrenching, set of compositions. Read about M83′s favourite songs right now.
Heavily influenced by music and film, the design team at Conquer Gear showcases their tees not as clothes, but indubitably as limited edition art pieces. That said, I wonder what film or music piece inspired Mr. Owl picture t shirt [below]? Led Zeppelin came to mind, but then so did Joni Mitchell!. As for film inspirations, Clockwork Orange, Lord of the Rings and Out of Africa. Hmmm, maybe I’m not so good at this afterall. Read more
The newest giclee print from Rebel Unlit, Inquiry into Jellyfish, is an adventure in mixed media. We love the subtleties of this piece, which could be missed at first glance: the transparencies, the color distress, the foreground texture. We’re also a pretty big fan of that jellyfish. Inspired by Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, this limited-edition piece is printed on cotton matt archival 310gsm paper and is available now in the Lost At E Minor online store.
