MySpace or yours? Custom design for your MySpace page

Music is what gets me through my day, so I’ve enjoyed exploring MySpace and keeping up to date with my favourite artists for years. However, what really disappoints is the amount of less than average branding I see. MySpace is often the primary point of online advertising for bands, groups and solo acts, so it has to make an impact.

Unfortunately, there are just too many talented artists out there (even the famous) with MySpace designs that don’t reflect how good they are. I have years of experience working in the music industry as a designer, so I know what artists need and what works in a MySpace environment. If you have a MySpace page and want it to look as good as you sound (I’m sure, right? Right!), let’s talk about how to make it happen.

Alice Carroll

Australian illustrator Alice Carroll produces quirky and whimsical works. Each piece is a response to a word selected every week in order to keep up the creative tempo – quite an effective method as the results are intriguing. I warmed to her interpretation of ‘sour’, in particular, as it captures the word right down to the knee bone, but in a strangely friendly way. Read more

Rootbeer

Recently formed hip-hop duo, Rootbeer (Pigeon John and Flynn Adam), have just dropped a super fresh piece of audio pie right in your kitchen. Influenced by artists such as MGMT, N.E.R.D and A Tribe Called Quest, Rootbeer offer up an edgy and unfeigned lyrical style. Turn up their debut release, The Pink Limousine EP, to eleven. You’ll find it impossible not to make shapes.

After the owner decided not to sink $20,000 into repairing the engine of his Porsche 911, he donated it to pro-gun non-profit Commonwealth Second Ammendment, who proceeded to unload over 10,000 bullets into it to raise publicity for their cause.

My first impulse, when I’m staring at a blank canvas or sheet of paper, is always to draw or paint a face. I think this is pretty elemental, since faces are pretty much how we primarily interface with each other. Brian Kokoska also seems to have the same impulse, creating terrifying, perverted, and whimsical figures with mask-like mugs in his images. Read more

In my next life, I want to sing like Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. Oh, and grow a lush beard, so I can play in their band. Better start cracking.

Old-school, timeless French is the vibe of creative agency Mother London’s latest campaign for Stella Artois. Titled Recyclage de Luxe, these massive, 1960s vintage-esc posters lining the walls of London’s tube aim to unabashedly promote Stella’s green credentials. The vibrant, revival ads, along with other campaign gimmicks, are all part of the brand’s efforts to boost its environmental image. Read more

This one-stop shop for all things eco-friendly is proof that protecting the environment is becoming a popular pastime. Almost every material category that comprises our society, from design to celebrity to transport, is looked at through a green lens. They’re ranked number twenty-two on Technorati’s list of 75,000,000 blogs, and even Daryl Hannah is singing their praises. Why? Its writers, they claim, ‘have the ability to take topics that most of us snoozed our way through in school, and make them the addictive juicy, green bits that they are’.

Bay Area duo The Human Quena Orchestra sounds like a skyscraper falling in slow motion with their scraping, crashing, screeching drone pounded out of guitars, samplers, and circuit-bent electronics. Listen to their track Progress below.
