Pictures by Women: Photo by Cindy Sherman
I like the raw quality of this photo by Cindy Sherman. There is a visceral expression in this character’s eyes and pose. It’s a mixture of many emotions at once, and I am completely drawn into the story behind the photo, wondering where this girl is and why.
I’m reminded of the reason I like writing songs. It’s about riding that line with lyrics and imagery to tell just enough but not too much, so the story can become anyone’s. A song is very similar to a photograph in that way. It’s simply a snapshot of a certain time and place, and an opportunity for someone to be pulled into another world.

Cindy Sherman is the best. Can’t wait for her retrospective next year at MoMA. I also loved the recent doc “Guest of Cindy Sherman.” Totally insightful look into her process and lifestyle. http://www.guestofcindysherman.com

Wow, I’m transported back to Year 12 Art class! Saw her untitled film stills in Sydney on year…impressive stuff for the time
