Louisville Beer Store in Kentucky

Besides being the best soundman I know, Tyler Trotter, along with Lori Beck, is co-owner of the Louisville Beer Store in Kentucky. If you’ve been good in your corporeal life, and you happen to like beer, this is what’s waiting for you when you die. It’s a parade of craft beer – over 400 from around the world, some incredibly rare. An online store should be opening soon if you don’t want to fly to Kentucky to get soused.

Rare music sourced from Japanese LPs 1980-1986

So you make music and you work to create something that’s different, something distinctly yours, maybe you find it. You’re elated. You try not to think that maybe you’re the best musician you know, maybe in the whole town right now, walking around, you, the best musician ever. Everything is sounding like what God would whistle. On An Overgrown Path

On An Overgrown Path is my favorite music blog. I hear a lot of people lamenting the state of the music industry: from sales to labels, bands and performers. Few folks seem as energized by music as the blog’s author, Bob Shingleton, a former EMI exec. Read more

Hickory Mertsching

You could argue that Hickory Mertsching isn’t keeping up with modern trends, but since man scribbled bulls on the walls in Lascaux, we as a species appreciate good draughtsmanship. Read more

Awww, a website that hosts pictures of couples kissing. Or nights of debauchery where you don’t remember having kissed anyone, but you did. Singles may say, ‘bah-humbug!’, to you kissing people and others, frolicking in couple-dom bliss, may say, ‘we should try that position’. Whatever team you may be in, Kissez is a lovely site to visit for a daily dose of photographic PDA. Read more

Sometimes the Deviant Art community throws up a gem of a piece. And this one by Papa Ninja is a star. Somehow it’s funny, sexy, and artistically compelling at the same time. Or perhaps that’s just because I’m two hours into the day and haven’t had a coffee yet.

Chicago’s Cheer Accident started as a post-no-wave weirdo band typical of the Skin Graft roster, but of late, they’ve been doing some unrestrained pop and rock. They even have harmonized vocals and an occasional horn. This isn’t to say they’re commercializing – their songs are just as complex as ever, and there’s still a hint of discordance beneath the shimmering new sound.

I don’t know if it’s the name, the relaxed look, or the attitude that just don’t sit too well with authority, but something about New York based label Sophomore has got us reminiscing about the good old days. Their current collection has boys and girls getting back-to-basics. Think jersey sweats and loose tees, mixed with yoke necks, caplet sleeves and tapered waists. And you know what that means? The search for the perfect white tee and the ultimate summer singlet is over. If that’s not enough to get you inspired, pull out your denim, pop on some 1970s vintage Jodie Foster, and get ready to channel some Lower East Side cred.
