Sometimes it’s good to be hit with a reality check on just how good most of us have it today. These dramatic colour photos by photographers of the Farm Security Administration were taken in Depression-era America and serve as a stark reminder of a yesteryear where resilience and adaptability were far more vital than having access to the latest Apple product.

New York car space being sold for 1 million dollars
Only in New York? We think so, though those in Tokyo may disagree. According to that reputable news source, the UK’s Daily Mail, a ‘developer of a luxury condo building in New York City’s Greenwich Village has listed a parking spot for $1 million’. That’s right. And the spot only holds one car, measuring in at an underwhelming 12 feet by 23 feet. So is it even semi-reasonable to ask this much? The New York Post thinks not. They’ve determined that ‘driver would have to rack up a $115 illegal parking ticket every day for 24 years before reaching the cost of this luxury garage’. Ah, the joys of deep pockets.

Colour aside, Dotson’s cleanly simplified, geometric renderings of various spaces are a treat. I’m enjoying reading the insight and witticisms of the Indie Breakfast Club blog, which casts a wide net over entrepreneurship and what it means to be one and still have a conscience.
No wave is alive and well, if Brooklyn duo Talk Normal are any indication. Drummer Andrya Ambro keeps things cohesive with surprisingly precise percussion, occasionally banging on such things as an electric guitar and an old iron pipe rigged with contact mics, while guitarist Sarah Register coaxes some unnerving and discordant noises from her axe and array of pedals. The two take turns shouting abstract and absurdist lyrics with voices like hi-tech valkyries from a futurist nightmare.
