Colour photography from Russia in the early 1900s
There isn’t much to be said about these photos, they speak for themselves. I find myself revisiting them every other week or so just to be reminded of their brilliance. The photographer, Prokudin-Gorskii, developed an insanely ingenious technique that was worlds ahead of its time. Here’s a pretty detailed description of the RGB process.

I’ve been expecting one of these dudes to show up on my porch at some point. I just wanna know if they’re alive or not.
This is a collaboration between a couple of buds of ours — Julian Labat (bassist in our band BOBBY) on sounds and Sally Richardson on video. These guys were mapping the VHS/Synthesizer trajectory long before I or most people had any foresight of the current trend. If pixels were edible, I’d sink my teeth into this first. Also great to put on before bed.

Jazner: a tasteful music blog by Julian Schoen
In the relatively short amount of time I have spent browsing the .0000001% of the music blogs floating around, I’ve often (not always) found myself feeling that, one, I miss writers when I’m cornered into digesting five-worded, genre-filled prefaces to an artist I’ve not yet heard and, two, that I must be moving on anyway because there are 500 more bands to go. Founded and run by a gent named Julian Schoen out of Santa Cruz, CA. I really favor this blog for its non-implicit and colorfully tasteful writing.

Finnish folk band Gjallarhorn is named for the horn that the Norse god Heimdall blows to announce Ragnarock — the end of the world. The bands music is far from dark, however: their brand of Scandinavian folk music incorporates mouth harps, fiddles, flutes, and even didgeridoo in a melange of cheerful, but ethereally beautiful tunes sung in Swedish.

Good call. I’ve been meaning to pull up the URL and submit them to Contributions also. These are stunning! They produce a similar frisson to holding an artifact, veils that you didn’t realize you had dropping from your eyes.
