Paul Wackers at San Francisco’s Eleanor Harwood Gallery
Paul Wackers most recent solo show is one of the best painting shows I’ve seen in San Francisco in awhile. Not to mention, one of Wackers’ strongest bodies of work yet.
In this grouping, he presents us with the interiors of rooms and still lives placed in vitrines and in the outdoors, thus drawing our attention to the collections we harbor in our homes and the objects we may encounter outdoors. His work is full of contradiction, using painterly and unconventional mark-making techniques which I have always been drawn to. Wackers’ show is up until May 15 at Eleanor Harwood Gallery in San Francisco.

nice paintings. there are some delightful color moments, patches of vibrant paint handling juxtaposed with a sort flat and pushing up against the plane thing. handsome and would look good if you had one hanging in your home. spray paint plays in important role in these paintings (it seems that spray paint has made its way up in lots of contemporary painting). Maybe i’m getting an alex katz mixed with a little hockney feeling. If you this your thing, take a look at a couple of other young painters work who has something in common–Eric Sall at ATM Gallery & Susan Matrician. I would give another one to look at but can’t remember his name…I’m blanking on right now…I know i’ve seen a few in the philips collection…I’ll post again when I remember. I’m particularly enjoying Happy Camper.
