LEGO this, LEGO that, LEGO and make something clever, just like British artist Aaron Savage did. He recreated seminal album covers out of his childhood obsession. Hmmm, Aaron, please do a LEGO version of Coldplay next. It would probably have more charisma than the real thing.

New York car space being sold for 1 million dollars
Only in New York? We think so, though those in Tokyo may disagree. According to that reputable news source, the UK’s Daily Mail, a ‘developer of a luxury condo building in New York City’s Greenwich Village has listed a parking spot for $1 million’. That’s right. And the spot only holds one car, measuring in at an underwhelming 12 feet by 23 feet. So is it even semi-reasonable to ask this much? The New York Post thinks not. They’ve determined that ‘driver would have to rack up a $115 illegal parking ticket every day for 24 years before reaching the cost of this luxury garage’. Ah, the joys of deep pockets.

To finish off my four years of art school, I decided to base my thesis on something near and dear to me: indie folk band The Decemberists. Their music is some of the most inspiring I have come across; each song tells a rich, nuanced story with a whole cast of compelling characters. The lyrics can be vague enough to be open to interpretation, but contain enough specificity to make a detail freak like me joyfully hunt down reference images of columbine flowers and mistlethrushes. The New York Times recently posted a selection of Mad Magazine fold-ins from the past 40 years of the magazine’s history. The feature allows you to actually fold the images to reveal the decoded message and picture.
The coolest band in Indonesia? I think so. White Shoes & The Couples Company describe themselves as a small band that is ‘influenced by Indonesian movie soundtracks from the 70s and inspired by the acoustic spirit of 1930′s classic jazz musicians’. But I like to think of them as carrying the torch for artists like Benny Goodman, Tahiti 80, and The Cardigans, all at the same time.
