Drawings of animals by Maria Elina

It’s funny that as alienated as we are from animals in this modern world, people still feel compelled to draw them as if it were one of our core instincts. Argentine artist Maria Elina does excellent drawings of anthropomorphized animals. Excellent, I say. Trust me, I look at the internet all day. Read more

Surreal sculptures by Ben Wheele

Honestly, writing about art (and music, for that matter) is kind of an awful task because good art speaks for itself. Such is the case with Ben Wheele’s surreal sculptures and videos. Stereomood is better than a freshly baked croissant. Okay, maybe you can’t eat Stereomood, but you can listen to it during cooking time. Just as I was waving good-bye to my iPod and closing the drawer I was burying it in, a friend of mine sent me a link. I was filled with complete happiness and optimism. The world will be okay, I thought to myself. I proposed to said friend as I was feeling quite romantic during our candlelit dinner and was rejected. I mm now feeling quite lonely, with a slight hangover.

Alfred Hitchcock’s icy heroines inspired Yeojin Bae’s Autumn Winter 09 collection. Its 40s noir meets modern day muse with seductive tailoring and asymmetric style. Yeojin Bae’s signature has become ultra-feminine shapes contrasted with coveted tailored separates Unravelled shapes are expertly tailored. Raw edge silk blouses have dipping necklines and are worn boxy and loose. Wool Angora overcoats feature a dramatic bias cut hem and buckled flare sleeve in black or herringbone. Flame red chiffon falls delicately into an asymmetric wrap skirt, as figure hugging stretch leggings bring billowing shapes back into the body. Read more
